2015 was another bumper year for Advantage Math’s Advanced Programme Mathematics centres countrywide. The year saw further growth in our Greenside High School centre in Johannesburg, a new teacher join the ranks at our Maris Stella centre in Durban and further development in the online space as the team worked tirelessly towards a fully blended (combining in-person and online learning) approach to AP Maths.
And so, with all of the hard work that went on in 2015 to sharpen our approach, broaden our impact and improve the learning experience for our students, it was exceptionally rewarding to see just how well our Matrics had done in the 2015 IEB AP maths final exam when the results came out towards the end of December. 2015 saw 46 matriculants who had learned with us, sit for the IEB AP maths final exam and they have done themselves, their schools and us very proud.
Our class of 2015 achieved an average of 64.93% (call it 65%)! This is absolutely brilliant for an advanced maths course that essentially covers 1st year University mathematics which they do as an extra subject, after hours, in an extremely demanding and time-strapped Matric year. This average is a 0.3% improvement on our class of 2014 average and is 3.84% higher than the 2015 countrywide IEB average for the subject of 61.09%. From Advantage Learn’s perspective, it is very satisfying to see that the hard work going on in the background is reflected in incremental improvements in our students’ final results.
Having said this, the individual efforts of every student that took on the Advanced Programme Mathematics challenge, should be commended and celebrated. This 3 year program requires a special level of commitment from the students towards their own education but this is not without reward as the extension and development that they gain is priceless. Well done to each student in our class of 2015! We encourage you to continue to challenge yourselves in the spirit of lifelong learning and wish you everything of the best beyond high school.
Special mention must go to those of our students who managed to achieved an A (over 80%) in the subject. This is a remarkable achievement! In no particular order, congratulations goes to:
Thanks must also go to our partners at Maris Stella, Westville Boys High School and Greenside High School for helping to make these results possible.
