We’ve already got a number of ways you can prepare for your NBTs and now we’ve created one more freely available resource just for you.

A learner’s grade 12 year is already challenging enough and on top of this, they need to understand what the National Benchmark Tests or NBTs are and how they can prepare for them. Many learners haven’t even heard of this test until they start applying to universities. Some universities like Rhodes University and the University of the Free State ask all first-year candidates to write these assessments before they apply for their degree of choice. On the other hand, other universities have NBT requirements that differ depending on which faculty or degree programme you are applying for.

According to the NBT National Report, only 27% of students who wrote the NBTs made it to the “Proficiency Band”. Meaning they achieved between 68%-70% for both tests. A high number of candidates fell into the “Intermediate Band” by achieving between 55% – 67%.
