Reflections on our first birthday

On the 16th March 2015 at 12:34pm Advantage Learn sold its first course on a “click to learn basis”. This meant that, for the first time, our customers could purchase any of our courses on the site with eft or credit card, and, once they were done buying the course, they could start learning in the same place. Essentially, a student could go from being interested in a course to watching videos for that course in less than 15 minutes and having his or her name on the register for one of our much coveted seats at an in-person course. The process our customers had to follow before this innovation was lengthy, we were dissatisfied with the solution we were providing and desperately wanted better for our customers, and ourselves.

For AdvantageLearn.com, then “advantagelearn.co.za”, this sale marked a huge milestone which represented almost 2 years of work. We tend to be big dreamers at Advantage Learn. We have regular “wishing” sessions. We’re always saying, “but there HAS to be a better way, right?”, we wish it could be easier and faster for our students to learn online with us.” Surely there is a better way than an online form, an invoice, bank transfer and then finally, a separate website for learning? We turned our wishes into research. And lots of hard work. Lots.

We’re celebrating AdvantageLearn.com’s first birthday, now marked by that purchase on the 16th March. The purchase was made by a gentleman named Jan Hartman for a course we were running in Johannesburg. This customer had, at best, spoken to us on the phone once or twice yet trusted us with his online purchase and to train his child for the NBT. What followed this first step portrayed by a customer choosing to trust us, has been nothing short of amazing. Now with 20 unique courses, over 2330 students registered from all nine provinces in SA, ±240 schools represented, we have been on an amazing journey thus far. This experience has only made us wish for more. Ever keen to learn and grow we are still finding so many ways to improve what we do and how we do it.
