Who can register to participate in the English Olympiad 2022?
For the English Olympiad Assessment, learners are required to prepare for a three-hour examination. The theme for 2023 is “Care and Compassion” and the anthology, A Better World, is a mixed-genre selection. The examination will require answers to two questions: one question from Section A (discursive essay) and one question from Section B (creative response).
In order to prepare for the examination, lessons will take place via two live online workshops conducted by Chanelle Peverett and Natasha Ferreira.

The workshop experience
Our workshops replicate the experience of being in a classroom, ensuring that the educator is always visible and giving you the ability to ask any questions via our live chat.
You will be given access to lesson notes which you can print or have ready on a device before you begin your lesson. The notes allow for working space so that you can work out answers and follow along during the lesson.
Pause, rewind and fast forward through sections in the recording of the session to ensure that you are efficiently and effectively covering sections for improved understanding and revision purposes.
Why participate in the English Olympiad?
The goal of the Olympiad is to enrich learners through the study of English and to encourage critical thinking and creative writing.
In June 2023, the results of all candidates and the names of the top 100 achievers are sent to schools. The top 50 achievers will receive academic bursaries for their first year of study at Rhodes University.
